FMoER: November 13th

14 Nov

Continued difficulties at Rhubarb Radio meant we didn’t broadcast yesterday – and in fact had a chat to a particularly helpful gentleman about other platforms for 50 Miles of Elbow Room. Watch this space, and in the meantime listen to this latest podcast, first broadcast on July 11th:

FMoER: November 6th

7 Nov

No show this week – quite literally, alas, since no pre-record went out either. The stream at Rhubarbradio.com is currently very silent indeed, due to behind-the-scenes difficulties happening at the station which add up to it being unable to broadcast. At this point, we’re not at all sure what this means for future editions of 50 Miles of Elbow Room … but bear with us, and we’ll see what we can bring you. In the meantime, you can still listen to the last podcast we were able to post below. We’ll be back with you as soon as we can be.

If you want to listen to this show, drop us a line - we have all of our past shows on file! To view a setlist of this show, click here.

FMoEB: October 23rd

25 Oct

Tatum was missing as always, but Sunday’s show was a grand one – a lot of contemporary stuff, with some of the best vintage cuts we’ve played in ages, it almost made Queasy Joe and Doc DW put aside their differences and quit bickering. Almost.

You can read the setlist here.

My Footage Always Runs Out

Our phantom percussionist, Cousin Terrence ‘Tinpan’ Perry, secretly filmed parts of the recording sessions for our forthcoming world-beating disc. How abouts a sneak peak?

We thoughts so.

Ain’t No Keys

18 Oct

Shot by Jill Evans Photography / Craig Bush

Imagine the scene: Doc DW and Queasy Joe arrive at the fishbowl on Sunday morning, with a fistful of fine songs and a head full of dreams, only to find that the key has gone missing and the sheriff can’t gain them access. What consequences might this atrocious state of affairs have? The first and most immediate, alas, was that there was no live show this Sunday – fortunately, we have all the tunes ready to spin next week. It’s a setlist and a half, check it.

The secondary consequence was that we spent the next few hours in the mighty fine Urban Coffee Company, before rolling on down to the Great Western Arcade’s Victorian restaurant to meet up with Queasy Joe’s old sparring partner and nemesis, Georgia Red Perry. Georgia Red has quite the line in high quality photography, and you can find her under her transparent pseudonym of Jill Evans here and here.

Anyway, we’re mighty excited by the results – watch out for our beautifully, luxuriously illustrated LP, which we’ll release in the next few months. If we can find the key to the duplicator’s.

You’ll have noticed – or not noticed – that there was again no podcast this last Sunday. For which apologies. Here, as recompense, is the setlist of that rather fine show, and some even more exciting news – the Brave Sons are now on Twitter! Follow us @TheBraveSons …

September 25th

26 Sep

There was no new Fifty Miles of Elbow Room yesterday – but that’s because we were upstairs at the Custard Factory, at the mighty fine Blue Whale Studios. Keep your eyes peeled for an album coming very shortly …

We’ll be back at Rhubarb Radio next Sunday.

FMoER: September 18th

19 Sep

With the magic Rhubarb Robot on holiday for a while, the podcast of yesterday’s edition will have to wait a while … you can still enjoy last week’s, though.

In the meantime, here’s the setlist of our first show back after Queasy Joe’s triumphant return from riding the European rails. We played Hank Williams, the Free Agents Brass Band, Villagers, Devon Sproule, Jonathan Wilson, M. Ward, Memphis Minnie, Miles Davis and more …

It’s That Time of Year Again …

15 Sep

As if the Bob Dylan Christmas album wasn’t divisive enough in these parts, She & Him have announced their own entry into this hallowed hall of the fame. To be released at the end of this year, Zooey Deschanel and M Ward’s latest album together will no doubt replicate the gently sweet tone of their previous records, some tracks from which we’ve played on the show before now. Go here to learn more, or click below to get a taste of what’s to come.

Ho ho ho!
